Year end report
Well, as usual, I failed to keep up on my fishing reports. Overall it was an off year, at least in my opinion. Stripers were tough to come by in keeper size, as were Flounder (in the back bays). Caught a ton of both, but always seemed to be short of the legal limit. Trigger Fish were not as abundant this year either, at least not like last year. But there were a bunch of huge Cobia around (never caught one though, saw a bunch). Specks were scarce, but I actually caught Weakies after a 2 year absence. Blues were hit and miss, they'd be everywhere one day and gone the next. Loads of Sea Herring this Fall. Peanut Bunker and Mullet left the back fairly early. Caught the biggest Tog of my life this year (9.5#) but had to release it as it was out of season. Had a blast with Bonito and Spanish meackeral this Fall. Got to go out on an offshore trip and landed a bunch of Yellowfin Tuna, and Mahi. My friend Andy landed a beauty of a Sailfish too. That was a great trip!
It seemed like everytime I planned a trip outside of the back bays the wind would kick up. This was a very windy year, well for smaller boats anyway. Weather was a major factor in my fishing, and really put a damper on a lot of what I could have and wanted to do. On the bright side, I got out with my girls quite often, and that is always my favorite. Nothing beats their little faces lighting up while fighting a fish, or the squeals and laughter after catching it. Nothing in the world compares. I also made some new fishing buddies and discovered some nice new spots to hit up in the years to come. So while the fishing was not always great, many other things made up for it. And really, whethr you catch or not is not the point, it's just being out there with family, friends, and nature, doing what you love.
I'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year! Hears looking forward to tight lines this coming Spring!
Best Regards,
Capt. Frank
